Tia Johnson

Tia Johnson is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She has a Masters of Education in ABA curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. She began in the field in 2015 after being referred by a friend. She promptly left museum work to pursue ABA.

Tia has experience working in school district, home, and clinic settings. As an RBT and BCBA, she has worked in home and with early intervention clients and as a consultant for a school district in Southern California. During this period she was responsible for training paraprofessionals and other school district staff on employing behavior analytic strategies across a variety of learners, organizing Extended School Year ABA services, overseeing the ABA direct therapy treatment rooms across several sites, supporting staff working with individuals with high intensity behaviors, completing functional analyses assessments, attending IEP meetings, presenting progress updates, and writing behavior intervention plans. She supported her school district and home-based clients during Covid closures and set up times to individually work with caregivers to establish routines, learning opportunities, and continued treatment.

She moved to Connecticut in 2001 where she worked in the home setting and later in a clinic setting. In clinic, she collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to create opportunities for learners to practice social skills such as eating amongst peers and participating in group activities including a clinic circle time, mealtimes, movement breaks, and group instruction opportunities.

Tia’s professional interests include working on “ready to learn” skills with young children to prepare them for successful academic and social experiences in the school setting or with peers. In addition, Tia enjoys collaborating with caregivers to ensure treatment is meaningful and interventions are realistic for their everyday life. She is passionate about transparency and compassion in her work and ensures caregivers feel empowered to ask questions. Her work with her clients and staff has regularly provided her with a sense of perspective, purpose and profound honor.
